Marianne Bunce-Houston has worked in oncology for 27 years, serving as a staff nurse in medical/surgical and bone marrow transplant settings before becoming an oncology clinical nurse specialist. Before her current position, she was the Director of Transformation & Innovation for Contra Costa Health Services in California. She is actively involved in helping professional development departments to develop nursing workforces that are prepared for future healthcare demands, and has mentored national teams using both Lean and Model for Improvement methodologies. 

Bunce-Houston received a bachelor’s degree in physiology from the University of California, Davis, a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of San Francisco, and a master’s degree in nursing from the University of California, San Francisco. She is currently pursuing her doctorate at Drexel University. She has spoken nationally for ONS, the Association for Vascular Access, and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. She and her husband own two music stores and founded a non-profit organization designed to bring the creative arts back into the elementary schools. They have started nine elementary school programs with the goal of enriching the lives of children who would otherwise have limited exposure to music.
