As the Lead Oncology Nurse Navigator at Penrose Cancer Center in Colorado Springs, Judith DeGroot oversees the development and implementation of a large navigation program which spans breast cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, head and neck cancer, lung nodule, thoracic, and malignant hematology units. The oncology nurse navigators she manages work with patients from private practice oncology groups (medical and radiation) and surgical practice, helping to provide seamless care throughout the cancer trajectory. DeGroot has held a variety of nursing positions, including staff nurse, unit manager, director of nursing, clinical nurse specialist, stem cell transplant coordinator, and oncology clinical educator. She has been actively involved in ONS since 1991 at both the national and local level.
