Join us for a four-part podium session that explores the experience of patients undergoing cancer treatment.

  • Sarah Dihmes and Marshalee George will present "Male Caregivers for Women With Breast Cancer: Understanding the Psychosocial Impact on Spouses and the Role of Oncology Nurses." Describing a study that evaluated marital distress and spousal dysfunction in intimacy, she'll identify the psychosocial deficits that men are at risk for throughout a spouse's breast cancer diagnosis. 
  • Elaine Zapata will present "Ovarian Cancer: Improving Quality-of-Life Outcomes From Diagnosis Through Treatment." She'll discuss the progress of an ongoing study that evaluates a theory-based, novel nursing intervention for patients with ovarian cancer. The intervention is designed to help reduce symptom-related distress and decrease levels of uncertainty throughout treatment.
  • Gwen Wyatt will present "Symptom Management and Treatment Interruptions Among Women with Advanced Breast Cancer." She'll explore how alterations in chemotherapy protocol and symptom severity can interfere with a patient's daily life. 
  • Patricia Bruns will present "Effect of Intra-Arterial Chemotherapy Treatment on Health-Related Quality of Life in Patients with Recurrent High-Grade Glioma." She'll evaluate the survival benefit and toxicity profile of intra-arterial chemotherapy and assess the magnitude of health-related quality-of-life changes reported during the treatment's course.
