Join us for a four-part podium session sponsored by the ONS Advanced Nursing Research Special Interest Group.

  • Sarah Afonso will present "A Retrospective Analysis of Gabapentin Therapy in the Management and Prevention of Pain in Oropharyngeal Cancer Patients Treated With Radiation Therapy." She'll discuss a study that reviewed the 2010–2013 records of patients treated with gabapentin at an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center.
  • Yuki Asakura will present "Perception of Advanced Care Planning for Japanese Women With Early-Stage Cancer." She'll share the findings of qualitative interviews with Japanese women who had breast or gynecological cancer and were recruited from rural and urban prefectures in Japan. Her study suggests that palliative care is a concept that is not well diffused in Japanese culture.
  • Dawn Frambes will present "Intervention Fidelity: Acupressure for Persistent Cancer-Related Fatigue." She'll discuss an ongoing randomized controlled trial that monitors how female participants self-administer a daily acupressure technique to minimize cancer-related fatigue.
  • Ann Fronczek will present "The Lived Experience of Primary Family Caregivers for Persons With Head and Neck Cancer: A Qualitative Study." She'll review the implications of a qualitative, phenomonological study of caregivers of persons with head and neck cancer, who were recruited from two Northeast cancer centers. Among the five emergent themes were information, role disruption and routines, coordinating and receiving help, vigilance, and major emotions experienced.
